How To Know if You Have A Faulty O2 Sensor A common cause for your check engine light to come on is a malfunctioning O2 (Oxygen) sensor. Your vehicle’s O2 sensors perform tests on your vehicle’s exhaust to determine how much oxygen is in it. The data from these test it sends to your car’s computer which uses the data to make the perfect air to fuel mixture to ensure that your vehicle is working at optimum performance. At some point, your vehicle’s O2 sensor will need to be replaced. Here are the two most common signs that one of your O2 sensors needs to be replaced. The first sign that your vehicle has a faulty O2 sensor is poor gas mileage.
