Halloween is a popular time for children to get out and walk in their neighborhood dressed up and on the hunt for candy. With this holiday around the corner, the team here at Eurasian Auto Repair decided to share some Halloween safety tips.
If you plan to be out and about during the late afternoon and evening hours of Halloween make sure to drive slowly and stay alerted especially in residential areas. Popular hours for children to be out trick or treating is from 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM. It is common for children to walk near, along, and sometimes in the street while trick or treating. Make sure to double check surroundings when backing out of a driveway, at intersections, and in cul de sacs. You should also turn on your headlights a little earlier than normal to help spot children that may be walking in the distance. Children are usually very excited to be out in costume and getting candy. In their excitement, they may move unexpectedly towards the road.
Trick or Treating Safety
If your children are going trick or treating this Halloween make sure to go over these safety tips with them. First and foremost, make sure the costume that is being worn is on and fits properly to avoid trips and falls. You should also have your children carry a flashlight or glow sticks to help them see and to help cars see them. Children should be accompanied by an adult while trick or treating especially any that are under the age of 12. Make sure that your children know to always walk on the sidewalk or path when there is one available. If there is no sidewalk, they should walk facing traffic as far left as possible. It is also a good idea to place reflective tape or stickers on bags and costumes to make children visible to drivers. It is just as important to not use your phone when walking on and near the road for pedestrians as it is for motorists. Staying aware of your surroundings is a huge proponent to staying safe.
The team here at Eurasian Auto Repair wishes everyone a fun, safe, and happy Halloween. Remember, visibility is important to keep you and others on the road safe. Give us a call at (210) 490-6552 to schedule any headlight replacements you may need before Halloween arrives.
