We’d like to share some fun facts for our Acura enthusiasts.
The origin of the Acura name is derived from Latin — acu — defined as “done with precision” or “mechanically precise.” Originally, Honda pronounced the marque as “a-coor-uh,” but customers preferred “Ah-cure-uh” so the new name stuck.
Acura has had a partnership with Marvel Entertainment since 2010. Movies like Thor, Captain America and The Avengers have appearances by various models of Acura automobiles.
Acura holds the distinction of being the first Japanese automotive luxury brand.
Some common issues with Acura automobiles
Acura Check Engine Light Comes On: Here are of the simple problems that cause your check engine light to come on and some information with possible solutions you can take care of on your own.
Issue: Gas cap is loose Possible Solution: Tighten the gas cap
Issue: Oxygen sensor (O2) may be bad Possible Solution: Consider replacing the oxygen sensor
Issue: Time to replace the Spark plugs Possible Solution: Replace spark plugs
Issue: Catalytic converter may be faulty Possible Solution: Have an auto technician see if converter is faulty or missing
Acura Excessive Oil Consumption: Some drivers have complained that their Acura consumes 4-5 quarts of oil between oil changes. Since Acura has yet to publish a solution to this problem, that makes it even more important to have your oil changed on a regular basis.
Why get an oil change? Over time engine oil breaks down. The heat and cold cause the chemicals to change and the oil becomes less effective as a lubricant. Changing the oil at the recommended intervals means you always get the best performance from your engine oil.
Don’t forget to change the oil filter. Over time this gets clogged up with gunk and needs replaced. To replace the filter, you have to drain the oil.
Acura Transmission Failure
The technicians at Eurasian Auto Repair recommended that Acura drivers have their transmission fluid and filters changed with OEM fluids and filters to prevent premature transmission failure. Those fluids and filters need to be changed every 24,000 miles. If you experience transmission failure while driving, you’ll notice that the car completely lost power and all kinds of check engine lights started flashing! At this point, you will have to have an experienced auto technician inspect the transmission and recommend possible solutions.
If you notice your Acura automobile is having more problems than you think are reasonable, it would be prudent to check the Official Acura Recall Information Website for further information.
