Tire Wear
The roads here in San Antonio can damage and cause rapid and irregular wear on your tires. Irregular tread wear can shorten the life of your tires and cause safety concerns while on the road. Common irregular wear patterns include heel/toe, one-sided, center, cupping, and spot wear. To keep your tires’ tread wear even you should have your tires inspected, rotated and balanced every 10,000 miles (unless otherwise recommended by the vehicle manufacturer). It’s also very important to have an alignment done every year or when you replace your tires.
Tire Age
As your tires get older you may be prompted to replace your tires due to wear and tear. However, manufacturers recommend only driving with tires under the age of 10 years. Even if your tires appear to be in good condition you should not drive with tires 10 years or older. To check the age of your tires locate the symbol “DOT” on your tire's sidewall. The last 4 numbers after the symbol will indicate the week and year your tires were manufactured. Don’t forget to also replace your spare tire after it is 10 years old.
