What Happens During Our Free Visual Vehicle Inspection in San Antonio

You call a repair shop, describe the noise your car is making, or what repair ChatGPT told you was needed, and ask what it’ll cost. Most shops give you a number. We don’t.

At Eurasian Auto Repair, every vehicle that comes through our San Pedro and Northeast San Antonio locations gets a free visual vehicle inspection before we quote a single dollar. No guesswork, no bait-and-switch, and no charge if you decide not to move forward.

Why We Don’t Give Auto Repair Quotes Over the Phone

Two cars with the same symptom can have completely different problems. A squeal could be worn brake pads, or a failing wheel bearing, a loose heat shield, or a belt. A phone quote is a guess, and a wrong guess costs you money or trust.

You may know what part you think needs replacing, but do you know WHICH part? Sometimes customers come to us with an idea of what needs to be quoted, but until we verify the specifications of the exact part you’re asking to replace (and what other parts may or may not be needed to complete that repair), we’re just guessing. That’s a waste of your time and ours. Part specifications can create an astronomical difference in pricing, and some parts may have been updated or upgraded based on other modifications to the vehicle.

Instead, our technicians look at your actual car first. The estimate you get is built on what we found, not on what we assumed. (The only exceptions are menu-priced services like oil changes and alignments.)

If you already have a dealer quote, bring it. We’re happy to compare it line by line. We just won’t promise that someone else’s quoted repair will fix your problem until we’ve seen the car.

Our Free Vehicle Inspection Process, Step by Step

  1. Drop off your vehicle. No appointment required, though scheduling ahead is always welcome. Your service advisor writes down your concern in your own words so the technician knows exactly what to look for. The inspection itself is free.
  1. A technician inspects and test-drives your car. Our technician drives your vehicle (whenever safe) to check how it handles, brakes, and sounds, then performs a visual health check on the lift. There’s no teardown at this stage. Nothing is taken apart without your OK.
  1. Every finding is documented digitally. Results go into a digital vehicle inspection (DVI) report, color-coded green, yellow, or red. Safety concerns are photographed whenever possible, so you see what the technician sees.
  1. We review your car’s history. Your advisor checks your service records with us. For first-time customers, we pull a Carfax report to see what maintenance has already been done, so we don’t recommend something you just paid for elsewhere.
  1. If more testing is needed, we ask first. Some problems (think electrical issues, intermittent concerns, or drivability problems) can’t be confirmed visually. If that’s the case, we call you, explain what additional auto diagnostic services are needed, what the testing will tell us, and give you a starting cost. No diagnostic work begins without your approval.
  1. We send your estimate and call you. Your estimate arrives by text or email with photos and technician notes attached. Your advisor then calls you within 15 minutes of sending the estimate to walk through it, safety items first, then upcoming needs, then routine maintenance.
  1. You decide. Approve all of it, some of it, or none of it. If you decline, your car is ready for pickup with no charge.

What Our Free Courtesy Vehicle Inspection Includes (and Doesn’t)

Our courtesy inspection is a structured visual health check. It’s designed to catch safety risks, obvious maintenance needs, and potential issues related to the concern you brought the car in for. It’s the starting point for an accurate, prioritized estimate, whether you’re dealing with a specific problem or need routine maintenance.

It is not a pre-purchase inspection, a bumper-to-bumper certification, or a diagnostic teardown. Some issues only become visible once a part is removed during a repair. If that happens, we stop, photograph what we found, and call you before doing anything else. You’ll never be surprised by an unapproved repair on your bill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the vehicle inspection really free?

Yes. The courtesy inspection costs nothing, and there’s no charge if you decline the recommended work. You only pay if you approve repairs or additional diagnostic testing.

Why won’t you give me a repair estimate over the phone?

Because the same symptom can have several causes, and a phone quote is a guess. We’d rather give you an accurate estimate based on inspecting your vehicle than a cheap number that changes once the car is on the lift. Menu-priced services like oil changes and alignments are the exception.

Do I need an appointment for a free vehicle inspection?

No. Drop-ins are welcome at both our San Pedro and Northeast San Antonio locations, though scheduling ahead helps us get to your car faster.

What is a digital vehicle inspection (DVI)?

A DVI is an inspection report you receive by text or email, with photos, technician notes, and a green/yellow/red rating for each item. It lets you see your car’s condition for yourself instead of taking our word for it.

What happens if my car needs additional diagnostic testing?

We call you first. We explain why the testing is needed, what it will tell us, and give you a starting cost. Nothing is done without your approval.

What if I don’t want the recommended repairs right now?

That’s your call. Your car is ready for pickup at no charge. We can also schedule upcoming maintenance before you leave so it’s already on the calendar.

Can you beat or match a dealership repair quote?

Bring the dealer quote and we’ll compare it with you line by line. We’ll still inspect the car, because we won’t promise a repair will fix your problem until we’ve confirmed the cause.

Do you inspect European and Asian vehicles?

Yes. We specialize in European and Asian makes, and our technicians inspect them daily.

Is this the same as a Texas state inspection or a pre-purchase inspection?

No. Our free courtesy inspection is a visual health check that helps us prepare an estimate. It does not replace a state inspection, and it isn’t a full pre-purchase evaluation.

Are your auto repairs covered by a warranty?

Yes. Qualifying repairs are covered by a warranty of up to 4 years/40,000 miles. Your advisor will confirm the coverage for your specific repair before you approve it.
